Rear Projection Scrim

Rear projection scrim is a specially finished white fabric designed to diffuse projected light evenly across the surface without a hot spot in the middle or dark corners at the edges. We seam it in wide widths so a single image spans the screen without a visible center seam breaking up the picture, which matters most on wide-format scenic projection.

Because the fabric is unprinted, it stays purely a projection surface — but we can add a subtle Lantern Stage Co. style border treatment or edge masking in matching fabric so the screen blends into your set instead of looking like a rented panel dropped into the scene. We can also dye the raw edge to match your masking so the transition from black drape to screen surface disappears under a blackout.

Touring concerts, houses of worship running IMAG or scenic content, and school and community theaters doing multimedia productions all use it as the surface behind the actors or band, so the image reads clean from every seat in the house without washing out under stage wash. It works as well behind a soloist under a single spot as it does behind a full band under a colored wash during a louder number.

Panels come hemmed with grommets or a lacing channel to match your frame or truss, and we can build in a travel fold pattern to keep the image plane flat on setup instead of showing crease lines under the projector’s beam.
